Ben Garden, Stewardship Manager
Ben is a lifelong outdoorsman and an enthusiastic advocate for the preservation of wild spaces. A native of Roanoke, VA, he spent 12 years as a teacher in Virginia's public school system. Ben owns and operates Virginia Outside- Roanoke, fostering a passion for the outdoors in young people across the Roanoke region and serves on the board of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Ben is also a conservation manager for First Earth 2030. Ben is a 2008 graduate of Presbyterian College and also holds a master's degree from the University of Tennessee. He lives in Roanoke with his wife and two children.

Woodie Walker, Education Director
Woodie has more than two decades of experience conserving Virginia's natural resources. He served with government agencies, AmeriCorps, the Fredericksburg-based NGO Friends of the Rappahannock, and the Rappahannock Tribe. Woodie is a 2022 graduate of the Virginia Natural Resources Leadership Institute, and a Virginia Master Naturalist. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran, was a finalist for the 2004 River Network River Hero Award, and in 2001 co-founded the Blackwater-Nottoway Riverkeeper Program.
